The very first post!

So this is all new to me being that it's my very first post but I thought it would be interesting to try this out.  I can't guarantee that it's going to be kept up to date 100% of the time but I shall try my best.  I thought I would start something like this to keep friends and family up to date on Keaton's progress and different things going on with us.

I have a daughter, Madison who is almost 2 and a half and a son, Keaton who is a little over a month old.  He was born with a complete cleft lip and palate(including the soft palate) which meant that the beginning of his life outside the womb he was fed with a feeding tube.  Though he did great, he only needed two feedings with the tube then he started like a trooper on a bottle.  We had our mishaps and still, to this day have some issues with him throwing up but he's done exceptionally well!  He was kept in the hospital for 5 days, his paediatrician wanted to make sure that he wasn't losing weight or at least that his weight would plateau.  Once he was released we had a break of 5 days until his first of many appointments.  His first appointment was on July 7th in Winnipeg to see the cleft lip and palate nurse, the amazing Cindy!  We got to see her and get more information as to what was going to be going on, his surgeries, next appointments, etc.  We also got shown how to use these things they call DynaCleft, they are basically like steri strips, it's a sticker that goes across his lip with an elastic type thing in the middle that you stretch so it pulls the two sides of his lip closer together in hopes that it brings it close enough together that he won't have to go through a surgery in the middle of September to "tack" his lip together in preparation for his lip surgery on October 20th.  We will soon find out if it worked, we go to see his plastic surgeon on August 19th, this is when we will also find out when we'll be able to head out to Ontario to visit with friends and family!  We also have a dentist appointment for him that day to see if he was born with all of his teeth or if he's missing any.  We then have an appointment on September 2nd for him to see the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, I'm unsure what it's for completely but I'm sure it's something to do with his ears probably because he is going to be more prone to ear infections then any other kids by about 10 fold because of his cleft palate, as if kids don't suffer enough from them!!

Anyway on a better note, we just recently started Keaton in cloth diapers, I am SO excited to first of all be doing something awesome for the environment but also to be saving money in the long run.  I am also getting some cloth wipes with wipes solution, it should be coming in the mail very shortly, so I'm excited about that.  It feels really great doing so much towards helping the environment and on top of it the diapers are absolutely adorable!  I've got a small stash of 6 pocket/hybrid diapers plus some prefolds which Jason has officially decided he doesn't like.  I'm hoping VERY soon to be able to grab a couple/few AMP Duo One Size diapers and some other pocket diapers, I'm having a great time, I even like washing them, yes I know odd!!

That about does it for today, don't know if I'll be back on before but I'll be back on for sure after Keaton's appointment on the 19th!!

Newly Cloth Diapering Mum,
Jo
